Lanzarote is celebrating its 18th anniversary as the biosphere reserve

Lanzarote was declared a biosphere reserve by the Unesco in 1993, exactly 18 years ago. The council’s president declared that Lanzarote has been and will continue to be worthy of this award, and that the governing party’s efforts are committed to honour this distinction.

The council is currently implementing 12 projects funded by the “Programa de Apoyo a la Red de Reservas de Biosfera Españolas“, which include the architectural competition to build the headquarters for the biosphere reserve, Lanzarote tourist guides, studies of the port facilities of Arrecife, the study of the seabed's nature, the count of aquatic birds, a study of mini-wind-energy, and the monitoring of endangered species.
